From the Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students:

It is with great gratitude and enthusiasm with which we are able to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year at Northside Elementary.

Our focus is on meeting the educational, emotional, and safety needs of our children. First and foremost, I know that the operational plan for Lake Pend Oreille School District, and how it will look specifically at Northside is important information families need at this time. Masks will be optional for students and staff, and are recommended during this time of high community transmission. We will rely on family help to screen students for potential COVID symptoms on a daily basis. It is imperative that parents keep students home who are not feeling well or who have had potential exposure. For more detailed information, please click on this link to view the LPOSD operating plan for the 2021-2022 school year:

Because we are taking additional measures to keep class sizes small, we have added a first/second grade combination class and split our large fifth grade class. I am extremely excited to introduce new members to our teaching and learning family. You may find an updated list of staff members on the Northside webpage.

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 7th. The doors will open at 7:20; students may get a free grab and go breakfast, and go to their classroom. The instructional day begins at 7:45. For parent drop off you may park your car and walk your child to the main entrance, or drop them off in the drop off lane in front of the school once the buses have left. School will be dismissed at 2:05, with early dismissal on Wednesdays at 1:25. Families who are picking up students must park in the parking lot and meet children at the retractable barrier at the front doors as they are safely dismissed by staff. Kindergarten Note: On the first day of school, kindergarten parents please bring your children to the kindergarten classroom outside door (Rapid Lightning Rd. side) where Mrs. Padilla and helpers will greet them.

With all that said, we still have work to do. Our children continue to grow in reading and writing. We do know; however, we need to be focused on math even more than we have been. One way we know you can help them is to work with your child, so they can learn their math facts. We are going to provide you with resources, which you can use at home with your child. Your child’s teacher will send home more information about this critical math component. With your help and a district commitment to improving our instruction, we will grow and thrive in this critical subject.

I want to take a moment to give our PTO a huge shout out!! I know we have one of the best PTOs I have ever experienced. Thank you for all you do for us, for it is truly amazing: pay for field trips, classroom supplies, support for art supplies, help teachers with special requests, share in the expense for the installation of magnetic whiteboards, and bring the Missoula Children’s Theater to Northside. The PTO just received a grant from Litehouse to bring fresh fruit/vegetable snacks to students. Northside PTO is truly an integral part of our success. Please look for information about how to join this group coming out soon. We also encourage you to join the Northside Facebook page to receive updates on what is happening at school.

I would like to thank you in advance for your help to make this year successful, engaging, and filled with learning for your child(ren.) Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

With warm regards,

Ms. Crossingham
